Descend Into the Past
Our Historic Tour will take you through one of Kentucky's largest & most scenic cave entrances to a subterranean river flowing over one hundred feet below ground. You'll pass the remnants of a turn of-of-the-century hydro-electric generating system that once supplied the town overhead with water and electricity.
Hidden River Cave and its rare blind fish population were nearly lost to groundwater pollution. The cave has been restored and is considered an international model of conservation, thanks to the efforts of the American Cave Conversation Association.
Special Tour
We offer a modified tour that is ideal for those who do not want to negotiate the stairs in the cave. This tour includes a self-guided walk through the American Cave Museum and a short, guided tour to the entrance of Hidden River Cave. Hear how caves are formed and learn why this cave was closed for 50 years.
This tour includes a short elevator ride into the sinkhole. Museum and sinkhole are fully accessible.
